What is white coffee ?
White coffee gets its name not because of its colour when the coffee is made. Instead, it is the coffee beans selection, roasting processes and the taste that make it different from other coffees. Looking into the coffee beans selection, only high quality Arabica and Robusta coffee beans are chosen in making white coffee. On the other hand, white coffee is produced by using a very traditional Nanyang low temperature roasting coffee technique. In comparison to high temperature roasted coffee beans, low temperature roasted coffee beans are free from bitter taste, charcoal flavour and having relatively low caffeine content. Furthermore, the taste of white coffee is not enhanced with additional ingredients, making it taste purer. White coffee is relatively mild, thus no heat feeling and stomach hurt could occur with substantial amount. White coffee is definitely a first choice coffee drink for the modern society which is busy with lives yet hoping to practise healthy lifestyle.
In comparison to most other black coffees currently on the market, White Coffee is free from bitterness, charcoal-flavor and contains a relatively low caffeine count. The taste of White Coffee is not enhanced with additional ingredients, making its taste and content pure, natural and delicious.
History of White Coffee
White coffee is one of the Malaysia famous local products, having approximately 100 years of history. It began when some of the Chinese from China mainland chose to leave their country in seeking for jobs in the Southeast Asia countries (or “Nanyang”, a Chinese term describing geographical region south of China). Malaysia, being a hot and wet country, is one of the Southeast Asia countries they chose to stay down.
It was quite a hard time for them when they first arrived, not only because of unemployment, but they were also facing the challenges from the cultural and language differences. They had to pick up all the laborious jobs, which the colonists and the locals were reluctant to do so.
One of these menial tasks was roasting coffee, as it required tiring and very hot work. Beans were roasted at extremely high-temperature. Coffee laborers had to conduct roasting for long periods of time while standing in front of the heat, making the process grueling and difficult. To keep awake during the long hours and cool in front of the roastery, while performing this work, the new immigrants developed a brand new roasting technique: Low Temperature Roasting. With low temperature roasting they were able to create a coffee that gave the consumer the same boost in energy as high-temperature roasted beans, but relieved the high-heat sensation that often results in the stomach when coffee is consumed.Local villagers were astounded to find they could tolerate coffee better, and that they enjoyed the purity and smoothness of the taste of White Coffee more than the high-temperature roasting product. The name of White Coffee quickly spread, and now it is served commonly all throughout the region.
